Day 4 – Portsmouth, New Hampshire, through Maine, to Saint John, New Brunswick

On Monday we drove through Maine the scenic, slow route to the Calais / St. Stephen border crossing.

First stop was the Kittery Trading Post in Kittery, Maine. This was my favourite store of the trip (oh wait, I forgot to mention earlier that we went to Cabela’s too 🙂  )  Jeff liked it the best too. Thanks Dad for mentioning it!

We weren’t too interested in any of the strip mall outlet stores so we carried on!

It has been smokey for days out here from the Quebec forest fires. Maine and New Hampshire had it too. Wasn’t too bad, just gave the air a bit of a fog and forest fire stench.

The best part of Maine and New Hampshire is the landscape hasn’t been ruined by ridiculous wind turbines. We did not see one anywhere, only a couple personal ones.

Here are some pictures from the Maine shoreline:

I look so relaxed! I might have to schedule trips away from a computer more often 😉

The border crossing was so small. No hassle, no inspection, no duty, and a line of maybe 3 cars.

We drove up to Saint John, New Brunswick and found a Holiday Inn to sleep another night.

Day 5 – Hopewell Rocks

Jeff had never been to the Hopewell Rocks on the Bay of Fundy. I went about 25 years ago when we parked right beside the stairs and walked down. Now it’s $9 each, a 0.8km walk to the stairs, and there is a big gift shop.

The tide was just about at its lowest, so our timing was perfect!

“It’s too high, I’m not going to be in it!” “You know you say that every time and every time you’re in it?”

They had handy hoses at the top of the stairs to wash off the red Fundy mud. Maybe that is what the $9 was for! 😉IMG_1202

After the Hopewell Rocks stop, we headed for home.

We picked up Monty from the boarding kennel. He did great! I hope he likes it there because he’s going back in a month 😉
