Some quick updates, mostly in photos:

Artists on Eighth

A few days ago I jumped in on an annual celebration of 4 great authors who are celebrated on the 8th ave here: Jack London, Dick North, Robert Service, and Pierre Berton.

The house Pierre Berton grew up in.

Pierre Berton’s house is used for a writer’s in residence program. The current author read from her books and then gave us a tour of the house! What a treat.

Discovery Days

Monday is a statutory holiday in the Yukon Territory. Discovery Day celebrates the finding of gold that kicked off the great gold rush.

The town was full of people for the weekend. Here are a few shots from the parade:

On Sunday morning, it was cool and rainy, but perfect weather for the mud bog races!

West Dawson

On Saturday afternoon we took the ferry over to West Dawson, the unserviced side of town (no electricity, water, sewer, etc).

Watched the paddle boat go by with tourists while we were in the line for the ferry.

The ferry goes back and forth all day, free of charge, shuttling people, cars, trucks, and trailers across the Yukon River.

We found the lookout on the west side that had the most incredible view of Dawson City.

It is neat to see the cleaner water of the Klondike River mixing with the silty water of the Yukon River.

I could sit here for hours.
