Dawson City’s first Air Show

The Canadian Arctic Aviation Tour 2017 arrived in Dawson City! This travelling air show is visiting 97 Arctic communities this summer, to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday. From what I hear, it was Dawson City’s first Air Show!

It was delayed several times throughout the day. I missed the last hour delay announcement so I had an hour on Front Street along the Yukon River watching the Klondike Spirit paddle boat…

… scouting for a good location to photograph the planes…… puppy watching…

…. more puppy watching…

… bird eating a carpenter ant watching…

… thinking he should go for the spiders too…

… watching the crowd start to grow along the dyke…

… and then deciding down along the river bank would be the perfect spot.

Finally after 4pm there was a loud jet noise out of nowhere, and a CF-18 Hornet flew shockingly fast from the rear of town over the river, and then seemingly stopped over the river. What an opening show!

Each plane in the show flew over the river several times. The entire show must have been longer than an hour!

Some of the planes flew upside down! Some went way way up, straight up, and then came thundering down. Others flew loops.

After work was over, Jeff joined me down on the river’s edge.

Then we had two planes at once!! These were flown by a father and son duo.

What an exhilarating afternoon! Glad we had so many summer tourists in town to share the experience!
