Mid October updates

I came back from my Thanksgiving trip to snow here in the Yukon. For the first few days, it snowed at night, and melted during the day. With the temperatures hovering around freezing, the streets were slick and most people were sliding through the intersections.

Hank’s up to 26.8 pounds now! Unfortunately after 3 worming doses, he still has tape worms, so I got a different worming medication from our vet that should wipe them out.

We had a nice weekend. Jeff and I had lunch out at the Eldorado yesterday and then I went smelly shopping 🙂 I picked up a bunch of fall scented candles at the Raven’s Nook to make our house smell appropriate for the season.

Yesterday afternoon we took Hank to the dog park at the north end of town.Jeff had Hank there while I was away and was eager to show me how Hank walks up the ramp, jumps through the tire, and does the teeter totter now!

Hank’s litter brother Griff joined us later and they ran and played and chewed on each other for an hour. Hank’s still tired today! Thanks Griff! 🙂

Winter prep continues here. The window has closed on our chances for more firewood, so we’ll work through what we have here and see how long it will last. I think we’ll do pretty good. We must have 4 cords, maybe 5. The back roads are now all muddy, rutted, or buried in snow, so there isn’t much sense in going for more wood with a trailer.

Jeff got my winter tires on my car today, and has turned the heat on at a minimum setting in the garage. Inside we’re doing pretty good on 1 fire a day with just 3 logs and haven’t had to rely on the oil heat yet.We’re hearing rumours the ferry will likely be pulled this week. There isn’t much ice or slush yet, but the river is really low. Tourists have moved on and gold miners are pulling out for the season.

I was inspired watching my friend Jen make some delicious rolls last weekend, and have decided to get back into making bread. I made a few loaves of white bread today and we had some delicious chili for supper. Jeff has put 300 pounds of moose in our freezer this fall, so we won’t go hungry this winter!

Later this week we’re forecast to head to -11C at night. I’ll be nice when the mud is frozen!
