When we stayed overnight in Whitehorse last weekend, we arrived just in time to see a movie in the theatre. We don’t have a theatre up here in Dawson City, so seeing a movie is a rare treat!

Our time matched up with the showing of The Call of the Wild staring Harrison Ford. Here is the trailer:

I LOVED this movie. It is based on a Jack London book written back in 1903. Jack London was up here during the Klondike Gold Rush, and his cabin and museum in his honour are just a couple properties over from ours here in Dawson City.

This movie is based on a fictional book, so you need to remember that it is a story, and this movie is certainly not true to Klondike Gold Rush or even Yukon reality. Just set that critical eye aside and enjoy this movie!

The main character is a dog, named Buck. He is CGI – meaning he is computer animated. He is done so well, I didn’t care if he was generated by a computer, he was real to me and I love him!!

Harrison Ford played the role of John Thornton, and he suits the role well. I enjoyed the relationship between Harrison Ford and Buck, just like I did of Harrison Ford and Chewbacca in Star Wars!

Dawson City during the gold rush is featured in this movie, although a fictionalized version, so it wasn’t too accurate, but that’s okay! The filmmakers apparently did take some landscape videography up here in the Yukon for the film for background views, but for the most part, don’t expect to see Yukon or Dawson City on the big screen, just the idea of it!

I think you should go watch this movie! It has some implied violence to animals at times, but none of it is shown, so I think it would be safe for most children to watch.

I’d like to think there is a little Buck in our Hank! I definitely saw some similarities! This is a movie I’ll definitely watch again!

I rate this movie with 5 stars.  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
