The graders say it is SPRING!

It’s totally not spring, it’s cold, and windy, and never ending, but it is sunny and the graders are stripping the snow off the streets! I zipped out for some groceries at lunch yesterday but had to turn around and go a long way because Fifth Avenue was getting its snow stripped up! Not only could I not cross, the drop off was well over a foot.

The streets are gravel here and not plowed often here in Dawson City. Instead, the snow just packs down into ice and gets thicker and thicker as the winter goes on.

Here are some scenes from our dog walk last night.

Eventually they’ll truck these snow piles away, but until then, it’s a bit tricky to get around town. But that’s okay! It’s worth it.

Hank and I are solo again this week. Jeff’s away for work. Our street is usually one of the last stripped, probably another week or so, so he won’t miss the excitement of spring coming to our neighbourhood.

These pictures were taken after 7pm. The daylight is increasing SO rapidly! The sunrise was at 8:29am today and will set at 8:25pm. It’s amazing!

Surprisingly, the normal temperature for today is -2C. It’s -25C right now. I was surprised to see the normal temperatures are so warm because we’ve gotten used to the cold and kinda thought this was normal. Guess it isn’t!
