We were below -40 for some part of 19 straight days. That’s a decent streak! But yesterday we tiptoed into the minus twenties. Oh so warm! We spent the weekend soaking up window sill puddles from the ice melting off the edges of the windows.
The week of Christmas was declared too cold for mail deliveries, hardware store deliveries, or even the grocery truck. Our electrical grid was maxed. Even the RCMP limited their services.
Here are some screenshots I took during the cold days:

We bottomed out at -47°C for a couple of days. Between here at Whitehorse, they dipped down to -55!
We’ve done pretty well. Our tub drain has been known to freeze, so we try to run the water whenever we think of it. It still froze twice, so Jeff’s been filling the drain with -50C RV antifreeze at night.
The hot water pipes in the kitchen froze on Christmas Eve day. I was able to get them thawed with some heat blowing into the back of my office closet where they run. That did the trick, until I found the water line also froze to the dishwasher. I took off the kick plate panel and blew warmer air behind it and that worked!
As it gets cold, Jeff and Hank head out on their walks without me. My hands and feet do not stay warm like they used to. I either froze them too many times or it is related to the neuropathy that one of my chemo drugs caused. I love working from home <3.
Here are some back alley pictures on a cold Christmas Day evening.

I’ll wrap up our Christmas in a separate post!
