Gertie’s midnight show, and sigh, it’s fall

Alex and I went to Diamond Tooth Gertie’s on Friday night to see the 10pm and midnight show. I hadn’t seen the midnight show yet this year and the reviews I heard weren’t great!

But it was great! Fun music, great crowd, sexy dancers, and talented singing! We had a fun time sitting at the front with 6 people from a francophone improv group. While we had planned to gamble a bit, we just chatted about economics and international trade and property taxes between the two of us, and answered questions about Dawson for the improv group like a couple of locals.

We’ve been chipping away at some house projects, but you just can’t beat fall here. Discovery Day comes mid-August, and then it starts raining. You’ll want to cut the grass, but it’s raining. The sun will come out to dry the grass, and you say, “Just another hour and that grass will be dry enough to cut”, and it starts raining.

Jeff was able to replace a few beams from the retaining wall beside the garage, and now we’d like to paint the rest of the retaining wall now so it looks nicer. The new front fence is finally painted inside and outside of the yard, but it should get a second coat. They are teasing us with some sunshine in the forecast for Tuesday, so we’ll see!!

Also, I finally got a haircut. Sara did a geat job!

We are planning to have a yard sale on the long weekend, so we’ve been making big piles of stuff to sell. Might as well start reducing how much stuff we have if we’re moving to Ontario in a year or two. I found a box of memories here that I had never unpacked, like a folder of my old stories and writings, bundles of old letters, and memories of my grandparents and other relatives.

And here’s a classic of me and my mom:

What else has been keeping us busy. Oh! We’ve got a house guest. My cousin’s boyfriend is working at an exploration camp a couple hours out from town and he had an emergency run into the hospital for stitches. He’s recovering with us for a few days before he’ll return to camp.
