Is it snow? Is it frozen drizzle? It kinda looks like light snow. And it is below freezing outside.
This is when the reality sets in and you realize just how fast that clock is ticking. Everything you’ve procrastinated needs to be done ASAP or you’ll need to wait next year.
Saturday
Jeff was out hunting with a friend on Saturday so I had a quiet solo day. I started it with putting new wiper blades on my truck. It was long overdue and wow! Is there any nicer treat than to give yourself than a new set of blades!?
Then I went over to the museum to pick out a couple of new books that I had my eye on the night before at the Snapshot Social (a social hour the museum hosts from time to time where they serve some snacks, drinks, and project a series of historical photographs on a screen. Pretty often someone will know who the person is in the picture, or what street or creek the photo is on. It’s really fun!
Anyway, my two new books:
- Memories & Recipes – A collection by Yukon Pioneer Women
- The Yukon Field Force – Nominal Rolls & Photographs by Timothy J. Popp

When I left the museum, there was very fine snow falling. The clouds were sitting right on the town.

I wondered what the weather was like above the clouds, so I drove up to the Midnight Dome.
It was above the fog clouds up there! And not snowing. But it was only 2°C and no one was around. I walked up to the top and checked out the new bench!

The old bench was incredible, but it was rotten and falling apart. The new one has some serious personality!

It’s neat to be above the clouds, yet below the next clouds!

Can you see the snow on the hills out Bonanza Road? Zoom into the centre of that ^ picture!

Ignore my crazy hair. I went to sleep with wet hair after the hot tub the night before:

Sunday
The mornings start cold and foggy but Jeff was keen to get started on his next project so he was up and at ’em early Sunday.
When he rebuilt the deck a few years ago, we just mimicked what was already there but took off all the railings. It always had this little boardwalk between the back gate and the porch.
But it was wildly dangerous, especially in the winter when you couldn’t tell if you were going to step on that runway or your foot was going to fall down another foot and a half to the grass in the corner by the deck. Or when Hank’s on leash and pulls you off of it when it’s icy. And the rest of the grass in that area was pretty useless, mostly just weeds. So one day I said, why don’t we just stretch this walkway all the way over, the width of the deck? Jeff was convinced!

So he bought some more pressure-treated deck boards and screws and made quick work of it!

Just in time to get covered in slippery new snow!

Hank seems pretty indifferent about the snow:

Jeff’s been busy getting his boat washed up to get it folded up for the winter. Our garage is huge and tiny all at the same time, and he’d love for us to be able to fit both trucks in this winter so everything needs to be packed and stacked! We had the visiting garage door maintenance guy put some bigger weather stripping on the sides of the garage doors this summer so maybe we’ll even save a buck or two on our garage heat!
Speaking of heat… Jeff’s got the first fire started in the woodstove this morning!
