Today it rained. All day.

When I booked two nights for us at Esker Lakes, I imagined us renting a canoe or a peddle boat and doing a hike or two.

We eyed up the equipment yesterday!

But instead I woke up with more of a cold, blowing green stuff out of my nose, and it rained all day. With a high of 11C.

We built a tarp patio off the back of the truck and hung out there all day. We had a fire going and when the drizzle slowed, we warmed ourselves by the fire.

Eventually I put my wool base layer on and a toque. Cathy has wool mittens she bought at Egli’s and I dug out two hand warmer packets from my winter survival supplies and we squeezed those all afternoon.

We made tea and had cookies. And for supper we made a Mountain House dehydrated meal since it was quick and easy and warm.

And that is just about it!

We visited with Bearcat a couple times when he made his rounds of the park.

And then we ran out of firewood so we went to bed as it got dark at 8pm.

And now we hibernate until tomorrow.

What’s next? Unsure. We have a route in mind but we will see how far we get and if we need warm dry clothes or a warmer bed first for a night.

Good night!
