A sample of college dorm life, ping pong, board games, and dead hanging

On Friday I drove through some hideous Southern Ontario traffic to arrive at my eldest niece Hadley’s new dorm room at college!

And my how the dorm life has been improved from how I remember my own. Air conditioning! A double bed! Floor to ceiling window!

Hadley’s going to do great here! I’m excited for all the experiences she will have this year!

I got a tour of her room and quad, met one of her new roommates, and then her parents and brother joined us.

She showed us where her classes are, and around the buildings, and then we found a hall full of all types of food choices for an on-campus dinner with the college girl!

This silly shrimp allergy limited us to an Italian place but it had delicious pizza and pasta so it worked out!

Then we walked around the campus to the dorm. I caught this pic of my brother. Contemplating how his baby girl was growing up? Or maybe casting his mind back to his college dorm options?

I’m so glad I got to see where my niece will be this year! It seems like a great place to be!

Afterwards we all went back to their house for the weekend. And we packed a lot in!

I was expressing my desire to learn how to dead hang this winter. The grip strength involved is supposed to be a good indicator of health and longevity so why not!

Turns out my nephew has a pull up bar and can dead hang! He instructed me to try with my palms facing me instead of what I tried on those monkey bars with Cathy when I couldn’t even attempt a hang.

And I could do it! After hanging for 5 seconds I let go in shock that I did it!

On my second try, I hung for 12-13 seconds. Wow!!! I need a set of bars like this to practice!

Later, after a few rounds of ping pong with Easton, I hung again for 10 seconds. Yay!!!

I thought I wouldn’t be able to lift my arms the next day but I’m fine so far!

We played a couple board games that were new to me! Oh and a round of Monopoly on the Switch where Easton obliterated us all.

Leanne and I took a nice 6km walk to a nearby lake and around the neighbourhood. I found a nice crop of poison ivy down the road from their house just before I wandered through it to checkout some trees. Whew! Leaves of three, let it be!

Easton and I had some fun with AI.

Yes, that’s me with the Champion belt. Hahaha.

I also won two arm wrestling matches so I was feeling pretty good about myself before Easton kicked my butt at ping pong again.

And Hadley showed us a digital video project she was working on up on their big tv screen! Neat!

A very full weekend!

But by Sunday afternoon I had to get going back to Julie’s for my appointment at Nissan on Monday morning!

And that is where I am right now. Seeing if they can diagnose my a/c woes! 🤞

All other plans this week depend on what they tell me and if and when they can fix it. 😬
