Museum annual auction and other happenings

I’m over a week late sharing an update about the auction! This year’s theme was Back at the Big Cabin. The big old historical Territorial Administration building that houses the Dawson City Museum was apparently once referred to as the big cabin! Our employees did a great job decorating for the event!

I waited until the day of to do all of my baking. I made 75 corn bread muffins to go with the chili and beans our other volunteers and board members were making. Plus 4 dozen chocolate chip cookies. And 24 cherry tarts!

It should have been no problem, but somehow it beat me up! My back was aching and I was grumpy. Why did I wait until Saturday afternoon to bake it all?

It was an oddly warm evening for the auction. Usually it’s freezing cold on this night every year!

Our recruited auctioneer cancelled because it was the night of the game 7 Blue Jays game. But Alex filled in and did so wonderfully! What a natural. He helped raise so much money for our fabulous musuem!

And we had a pretty full house, despite the world series!

There was a costume/themed outfit contest. Look at this hat a friend of the museum was wearing! There were even lights in the cabin!

As treasurer, I spent the evening updating our master spreadsheet with who had which paddle number, and then handled the payment machine at the end of the night as everyone settled up. It is always a late night, but everyone has such a good time, and is so generous! Jeff won a number of auctions, including another one of Sylvia’s famous rum cakes!

Hallowe’en

Of course we hid again and turned off the lights. The front steps are slippery and dark and I just don’t enjoy chatting with kids I don’t know and holding the dog back.

But I did get together with my friends the night before for dinner and crafts! Look at the spread Janet put on!

It was so much fun!

Dumping a few other good ones here!

I’ve got one more thing to blog about to catch you up – the emergency home repair! Coming soon…
