What I’m watching – Feb 2026 version

I like to record here what I’m watching, from time to time. It’s neat to look back and see how my tastes change.

We watch YouTube almost entirely these days, for our evening entertainment. I never thought we’d “cut the cord” for cable, but we did a few years ago and haven’t missed TV channels at all. We do pay for YouTube Premium though, so we don’t have to watch commercials.

Here are some of my current favourites:

Emma Shaye – Emma purchased an old abandoned two-storey general store in Virginia and is bringing it back to life as her new homestead. The building was full of treasures. Boxes of papers, old receipts, photographs, and hardware. She has a calm gentle presence, yet also is brave and dives right into the demolition and restoration work. Her dad is a general contractor who has purchased an old building across the street and he will come in from time to time to consult and help, and then Emma grabs her tools and gets to work. I’m so glad I found this channel!

Tia Weston – Tia once bought a house for $1 and fixed it up to be her own beautiful house. Now she’s rehabilitating another abandoned old house, in North Dakota, to give it a new life! Tia’s Dad makes regular appearances on her channel too, and helps her tackle the big jobs!

TBPN – In the afternoon, while I work, I often put on TBPN. It’s a couple young guys talking about tech, AI, tech economics, advertising, and they interview many CEO’s and people in news (even if the news, in this case, is just the popular feed on X (Twitter)). My favourite interview in the last month was with Peter Steinberger, the guy who created Clawdbot.

Wendy Outdoors – Wendy is an adventurous Canadian woman in her 70s who camps, canoes, hikes, and has even visited the Yukon a couple of times in the last year! I love that she often adventures solo because her husband doesn’t enjoy camping like she does. She’s also a fabulous cook while camping!

Cabin River Outdoors – Shawn is still my channel to watch. He’s in British Columbia, and bought a property to create a life for himself, off grid, and solo. I always refer to our life in Dawson City as being an incredibly inconvenient place to live. But this guy built his cabin and outbuildings across a river! He’s forever paddling, wading, building ice bridges, or shuffling himself across some sketchy ice in a canoe. And then he’s got another 7km or something crazy to walk, hike, snowshoe, or snowmobile to where he parks his vehicle. Everything he does is inconvenient, and it’s endlessly interesting to watch.

Jay Legere – We still watch Jay Legere too, from over in the Northwest Territories. He’s based out of Yellowknife, and most of his content involves a couple of camps he owns on government-leased land. He’s learning as he goes about how to tackle construction projects, and dismantling projects! He travels by snowmobile, and on ice roads, or by boat in the summer. He built a Yurt over in Cape Breton last summer too.

MIZI – This gal, from South Korea, can kick my butt! She has all kinds of exercise videos. They look like they should be so easy, but I usually end up using just 5lb weights! She’s got fun dance ones too. I haven’t ever heard her talk. She may not even speak English, I don’t know and it doesn’t matter. She’s got exercise for everyone, different time lengths and intensities, over 350 videos!

  1. Hey Lisa, I do recommend https://www.youtube.com/@MartijnDoolaard

“Martijn Doolaard is a photographer, filmmaker and travel writer from the Netherlands. He finished two long distance bicycle journeys from Amsterdam to Singapore and Vancouver to Patagonia. Currently he is renovating and living in a remote stone cabin in the Italian Alps. ”

At this point I’ve been following him for years, the filmmaking is astonishing and the Italian Alps really beautiful.

    1. I started watching the first year recap of Martijn’s stone house adventures and I didn’t even make it 5 minutes. I knew I wanted to experience all of it, and not just the synopsis! I’m on episode 24 of 189 on his ‘Life at the cabin’ playlist already! I had it on all weekend! What a beautiful place!
