Last week I was in San Francisco attending the Trust & Safety Professional Association‘s TrustCon event. I have worked in Trust and Safety roles off and on during my career. This conference was a great event to bring together my past and present work projects, meet people and vendors across the industry, listen to talks, and participate in workshops.

Having flown to San Francisco from Vancouver a few times now, I always hope for a clear day so I can spot the volcano/mountains and Crater Lake. (Tip: sit on the left side of the plane in the window seat southbound, and opposite on the way back!) I’ll label each photo with what peak I think it is!

Similarly to every other trip to San Francisco, I had no time to be a tourist. I stayed in the conference host hotel and only ventured within about 2 blocks of the hotel! At least that included the ferry terminal building! But I did finally see a trolley!

My room had a sliver of a view of the Bay Bridge.

Thoughts on San Francisco after this trip:

• It’s astonishing how many people who live in the SF area just flip from one tech company to the next.
• It’s not that warm in SF, but the sun is blinding!
• People wear puffy coats in July.
• No one wears shorts (but me).
• There are SO many Waymo’s (the taxi that has no driver). I didn’t take one (yet). (I took the BART train between the airport and the hotel and back).

The Hyatt hotel had the most amazing lobby! It went all the way to the top, with all rooms having a city view. You can see all the hallways since they only have rooms on one side. The elevators were glass and had lobby views as you went up and down.

On the third and final day of the conference, they brought in bunnies to pet!

On the final night, my coworkers surprised me with a cake to celebrate my 13th anniversary of starting with this company!

Overall, excellent trip. Fairly smooth travel. I broke my no 5am flight rule though. Here’s what 2:59am looked like in Whitehorse on July 19th:

The flights were full. Air Canada’s Rouge gives free wifi to Aeroplan members now (which does not make up for their lack of knee room). Actually, the flight down to SF was overbooked so they were offering an overnight hotel stay, meal vouchers, and $2k in credit to bump to a flight the next day! That didn’t sway me to take 3 days to get to San Francisco though!
