Football, and it’s a lovely summer we’re having

Dad invited me to go to a football game with him this weekend! He has been watching Laurier for years so we went to London to watch the first playoff game between Laurier and Western.

Dad wore all his team’s colours, and fortunately I lucked out and was wearing one of the right colours!

I am not a huge football fan, but it is a much better sport to watch in person. I enjoyed it! And it was a nice warm day. I enjoyed riding through the countryside with my Dad to and from London too!

Laurier came out strong with a fast first touchdown, but then they were trailing by about 20 points for most of the game. They lost 59-41!

Both teams had cheerleaders and Western had a marching band. Western also had a couple horses ride around the track after every home touchdown.

I was supposed to spend Hallowe’en with a cute little axolotl and a Mario, but this week went nothing like expected, and my Mom was a real handful (right Mom?) so ending up watching a football game with my Dad worked out, and he even came chair shopping with me!

I didn’t want to buy any office furniture for this temporary location, but I was swapping back between Mom’s wicker chair and a loaner gaming chair from Brian and both were so distractingly uncomfortable, it just wasn’t working out. So I bought a desk chair. Dad and I sampled about 50 of them before I found the right one! I told Dad it is a 756% improvement over the last two chairs I was trying to work from!

Today I went for a nice 7.3km walk around Listowel. It’s so hot outside! 19C, sunny. This November summer is such an odd treat! First, I found where all the jack-o’-lanterns go on November 1.

Mom thinks they are taken to a farm to be fed to some animals.

I visited Jessie Keith’s grave on my walk today too, while I was listening to a podcast about her murder. It was probably Canada’s first horrific murder, and it was of a little 13-year-old girl here in Listowel in 1894. (read the story)

Local residents collected donations after Jessie’s murder to purchase marble from the famous Carrara quarry in Italy (the quarry where Michelangelo sourced the marble for his “David.”) An Italian sculptor was hired to carve the Roman goddess of flowers, springtime and youth to be on top of the grave stone. There are lots of local tales of ghosts and hauntings around this stone and elsewhere in town, so I’ve heard about Jessie most of my life.

Then I walked through the park again. I used to walk my first dogs, Winger and Surf, through this park often the last time I ended up living in my mom’s basement (her previous house).

What else have I been up to….

I joined my friend of 45+ years, Becky, one afternoon for some adventure. But I forgot to take our selfie for the blog!

I babysat my other nephew for an afternoon and had a nice soak in my sister’s hot tub (I miss my evening soaks!)

I had a sunny front deck visit at my Dad’s house.

Oh and my truck is now an official Ontario registered vehicle. My license plate is just nowhere near as cool anymore, and I needed to put a front plate on too!

Until next time, this is me and the Yeti at Canadian Tire when I walked there for two license plate screws one day at lunch.
