Jeff and I went ice fishing this afternoon on Gillis Lake. Beautiful cold sunny day with a bit of wind. There were several groups out on the ice, even a couple ice fishing tents.
Jeff augured a couple holes for us. Ice was about 10 inches deep. We sat on our upside pails, each at our own hole.
I get frost bite quickly on my cheeks from so many cold walks to school in Thunder Bay, so I wore my face mask, toque, two pairs of track pants, and two pairs of socks. I promise this is me under all those layers:
Jeff was using a jigger lure. I had shrimp for bait. I caught a fish in about 2 minutes! Nice brook trout.
I tossed it back. Then we had a bit of a lull before I caught another one! Jeff took it off the hook for me.
She was a nice plump brook trout, spewing eggs all over as we tried to get her unhooked and photographed. I tossed her back too.
We had an awesome time on the ice! I don’t think it helped cure this cold I feel coming on, but we did make it home to watch the Olympic ski jumping 🙂

Wow, amazing! Did you keep any fish at all? You look a bit Hannibal Lecterish but frostbite doesn’t sound like fun, either, so I get it. 😉
Nope, didn’t keep either of the fish. To be honest, I didn’t expect to catch any 😉 I was kinda surprised to feel nibbles so fast!
i never used shrimp as bait, I’ll have to give it a try!
Seemed to work well! Jeff bought those little frozen shrimp and bit ’em in half.
