Mid-winter isn’t usually so great for seeing the auroras here in town, because the sky is usually blocked out by ice fog and wood stove exhaust. But tonight the sky is clear and it is dancing!

I checked before heading to bed and the sky was bright! So I grabbed my GoPro, boots, coat, mittens, hat, and external battery pack for my iPhone (keeping it plugged in keeps it from shutting down in the cold) and went into the back yard.

Most of these are 15 second exposures.

Update an hour later

Good thing I noticed the northern lights when I did! Here’s the ice fog rolling in from the river, spotted from the front steps.
