On Friday after work, the museum hosted the first Christmas Open House of the season. We invited the entire community to stop by, shop our vendors, eat some holiday snacks, enjoy our punch, have a drink, visit with Santa, participate in the scavenger hunt, make some crafts in our theatre, and listen to our live holiday music performers.
It was so nice, almost magical! What a great event!
My assigned job was to greet everyone at the front door and give them a free entry to our door prize draws that we did every 30 minutes up until 8pm. Here are some pictures, mostly from before the crowds came in, because then I was busy!
On Saturday Janet and I went to the last of the 3 big Christmas bazaars in town, at the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in hall.
I got a few nice gifts from our local crafty folks! Afterwards, Janet and I had lunch at the Eldo, and shopped at the few shops open in town in December.
Somehow Janet and I were both convinced that I simply MUST have this pink corduroy hat. And now I do.

Jeff spent part of Saturday prepping his outdoor Christmas decorations (lights and inflatables) and has most of it all set up now. A string or two of lights must be replaced, and some of our window lights aren’t working so we’ve had to order replacements. Decorating inside is in progress, while we clean and tidy! That little office renovation spread clutter throughout the house as I moved offices and shuffled where things belong. Finding places for things in a small house is always a work in progress!

I have some leftovers from the Christmas baking that I made for the museum open house, so I’ve tucked those away in the freezer for now so I don’t eat them all.
Coming up next is our Humane Society’s Pet Pictures with Santa event coming up this weekend. And hopefully most of the community organizations and services will resume their Open House drop-ins that were sorely missed during covid. This Wednesday is also the town’s Celebration of Lights with free skating and chili for all. There’s also a gingerbread house competition soon, and the scavenger hunt for the hidden Christmas number displays (12 Days of Christmas) throughout town that I always look forward to spending the evening in a cold car driving around town searching for them all with my friends.
We aren’t planning on travelling this Christmas, and it might be the first holiday in a few years where I don’t have to staff any shifts at work either. I’m taking a week or so off and look forward to watching some movies, reading a book or two, and relaxing with friends and food! 😀
