It has been raining for hours. I’m standing on a covered patio attached to the laundry room at the Bear River RV park in Stewart, BC.
We got a spot with full service tonight and are doing some rainy day things. Like a load of laundry. And since we have power and water we washed the dishes with hot water!

We had a long sleep last night. It actually gets dark down here! It was cold and drizzly and we didn’t get up too promptly either! Must be on vacation.
After we finally emerged, it was evident that my washcloth showers were doing nothing for my hair. So Jeff scooped a wash bucket of water from the lake and a solo cup, and I groaned as I dunked my head in the cold water, poured cups of water over the back of my head, and then lathered up with some shampoo. It was hurting my scalp so bad, the cold water, but then my head went numb and I got the job done!

Today was mostly driving. And rest stops. It is nice to have all the groceries we need to make a fresh sandwich or tea or snacks any time we want.
We topped up the diesel in the truck in Dease Lake and although we have all the food we need, I grabbed Jeff a hot sausage breakfast sandwich when I was browsing their store.
The Stewart Cassiar is a busy highway. No shoulders or passing lanes. But we don’t care. We are going slow and steady. It is nice not being in any hurry!
Some construction but not terrible. The road is good quality.

The wildlife count so far for this trip is:
- 5 bears
- 2 baby bears
- 3 moose
- 1 porcupine
- 1 mink
Lots of road kill – mostly squirrels and 1 moose
The two baby bears, both black bears, were in different places along the side of the highway. Didn’t see momma either time. I think every bear so far has been a black bear. Today most of them were just chillin’ along side the busy road.

There is lovely nature for this entire highway. No cell signals. Mountains. Big trees. Not breathtaking but nice. The ~40km into Stewart is quite scenic though, even in the rain. There is a glacier in that photo above.
We tried to dump the tanks when we got into Stewart but the stupid cheap little sewer hose has slid to the far side of its bumper container, with no way to coax it out! Why does only one end open!? Jeff even found a big stick thing to pull it out with no luck. We did get super soaked standing there in the rain though.

We went to the hardware store and bought another one!
Tomorrow is supposed to rain all day too. Do we sit tight or keep driving? We aren’t great at waiting.
We will drive further across the border into Hyder, Alaska tomorrow for sure. Then maybe the museum? We’ll see!

Here’s our home for the night. Now that the laundry is done I can get back to my book. Something about a gal travelling the Oregon trail in the 1850’s while falling in love. Or the other way around. It was some free historical romance novel on Amazon prime for my Kindle. It’s not even bad!

Lisa, this post brought back happy memories from our trip home from Alaska in 2013. We camped at that campground in Stewart and were hoping to see bears in Hyder. No bears but we had a great time.
