I was looking on the map for an off leash dog park for Hank to run in in Prince George when I noticed a Train and Forestry Museum! What could be better than that!? (If you are new here, I’m huge into trains, and forestry ( even got one of those degree things in forestry).)
I love museums too. But a marriage is about compromise. Our deal is I don’t visit every museum. But this one I really wanted to see! And it was right beside a water side forested park with trails! No need to compromise! Jeff and Hank got to go for a hike and I got to go hang out with old trains and forestry equipment! We all win!
My visit started immediately with a ride on their mini rail! It was so fun!!

There were so many cool trains, a train station that had been preserved and moved here, a restored Pullman car that Charles and Diana were in at Expo 86, a wooden snowplow, and maybe the most fascinating was the building that served as living quarters for men who worked on the tracks. It was lifted by a crane, on and off a train, depending how far ahead they were working!
I’m blogging this from my phone so I’ll just add a gallery of photos.

Afterwards, Jeff got his fill of Wendy’s, his favourite fast food, and then we headed out of Prince George.

We are sitting now at our camp site, #17, at 10 Mile Lake Provincial Park. It is just north of Quesnel, BC. I have no idea how a provincial park in BC works with a campsite host. Do they come around for payment? We can’t drive back to the sign at the front because we could lose our precious available spot! Can’t look online either! I can’t even ask you because by the time you can read this, we will be long gone!

Anyway, Hank’s chilling on his blanket, I’m snacking on some pretzels and birdwatching, and Jeff is across the road at the water tap washing all the dirt off his arm and hand.

You are really never going to believe this. Ok maybe you will. Remember that piece of garbage second sewer hose we bought when we couldn’t fish the first one out of the bumper that only opens on the left side? Yeah it’s stuck in the bumper now too, out of reach! Jeff stopped at Fraserway in Prince George to buy a new (pricey) fancy durable sewer hose. But it won’t fit in the bumper with two hoses already in there, both out of reach.
So after exhausting all other options, he cast a line with his fishing rod, snagged a hose, and reeled the sucker out of there! Clever!
Now we are thinking we should attach some sort of emergency line to this new one before sliding it in there?
… A few hours have passed. We did a 3+ km hike on the ski trails with Hank. The slugs here are out of this world huge! Ginormous!

Oh! And the answer is, the campground attendant came around on a golf cart after 6pm. We paid her the $25 cash and she gave us park info and a warning about the bears in the area and to not leave any food out of they’d kick us out.

Hi Lisa, A tip for you to keep your hose accessible…glue a hook to the lid, attach hose with a zip tie to that hook. You can get hooks that close…heavy duty magnets may work better! By the way, that slug is huge, and gross! Thank goodness we don’t have those in the Yukon!
Take care,
Tarie
PS…there’s a forestry park on Vancouver Island that has a train!😉
