Courtenay to Sechelt, 2 ferries today!

We scored the most beautiful spot in a provincial park tonight. WHEW! What a relief! I sleep SO much better when we are parked somewhere we are supposed to be.

We started out the day in Courtenay. The weather was hot first thing this morning. The people staying in the park are so nice. (I’m trying to find a nice way to say they all love talking. Like even more than me.)

Jeff made a ferry reservation so we got ourselves packed up and over to the ferry terminal in Comox so we could board in an hour for Powell River. We are off to explore BC’s Sunshine Coast!

The first ferry ride wasn’t too long. And we saw 3 or 4 little whales before docking in Powell River.

Powell River is a nice looking town. The mill has been silent for a couple of years but I just read that Domtar is working on buying it.

We drove on to Saltery Bay to get in line with all the traffic for the next ferry. It was HOT in that parking lot. I saw people under umbrellas and with towels and blankets draped over their cars. Another moment where the truck camper shines!

We hopped in the back, used the free wifi, made sandwiches for lunch, and chilled in the shade.

Once we boarded the second ferry, Jeff was concerned that Hank might not have enough shade, so he stayed with him in the truck on the deck.

I watched the scenery.

By standing above our truck.

It is so beautiful here!

When we got off the second ferry, the traffic was thick and the road was like the one to Tofino. Tight, curvy, narrow, tense.

We just kept going because we were nervous about finding a site.

But we found one! Roberts Creek Provincial Park. Just past Sechelt. You can’t reserve this one, and I think that’s key to finding a place to sleep. Every park that is reservable is booked all summer.

Here are some glimpses into the beauty here!

Site 2. What a great site!

These trees are ENORMOUS!

Tonight we had rockfish, potatoes, green beans, and Caesar salad.

The park has filled up. Mostly with tents. Other than a few vans, I think we are the only truck camper.

It’s just a small park with 24 sites along the highway. But it will do!

Tomorrow we have one more ferry crossing, but first, there is a place I’ve always wanted to see, from a TV show of my childhood. Can you guess where?!
