Coffee pot, Corner Gas, and a bloody laundromat

It wasn’t an early start today partly due to a long wait for our free breakfasts but we both slept good last night!

This is a face of someone trying to understand how it takes so long to make me some crepes! Feed me!

Cathy was much more patient.

Turns out there wasn’t enough crepes in the box (what does that even mean!?) so they made me two little crepes and gave me a French toast. Nooooo I don’t eat eggs! (Well I do, like baked in stuff, but ever since an allergic reaction to eggs as an infant (toddler?) I never warmed up to eggs for breakfast. Eww! Also. Not allergic anymore).

The waitress felt bad and brought me some bacon instead. Now we’re talking!

Awhile later, we were heading south when I spotted something enormous and I quickly diverted the truck off the highway.

The world’s biggest coffee pot!

And nearby, a really neat metal man!

He’s playing the fiddle!

Uhhh. I swear he’s looking right at me. Into me.

Those eyes have seen things.

Off we headed down to the town of Rouleau, Saskatchewan! That’s the town where Corner Gas was filmed!!! So many buildings are gone now. The grain elevator burned down. The sets for the gas station and the Ruby restaurant were dismantled.

But look! Oscar and Emma Leroy’s house!

The bar and the Howler are still there!

The Foo Mart burned down. But there are a few other recognizable buildings. And even just the feel of the back streets matches the show!

It was pretty neat to finally make it here. Dad and Julie were here when the set was still up. That would have been awesome!

But a storm was brewing! A good old thunderstorm on the prairies!

It poured for a bit! Which was helpful to get the build up of bugs off the front window!

We were headed to the Busy Bee laundromat in Weyburn to do the laundry we didn’t get to at the hotel.

We had a load in before we noticed all the blood on the floor. All over. With foot prints in it?

Fortunately Dad called so I got to step outside for a bit. We didn’t have the necessary quarters to dry, so I went to a convenience store a kilometre away and bought a bunch of road snacks so I could get quarters in my change.

Nope. The attendant said he couldn’t give me any quarters until tomorrow.

Huh? None?

Nope.

So then I went to the next store at the next gas station and bought more snacks. He was only too happy to give me 7 dollars in quarters!

Now we have clean and dry underwear for tomorrow! Look at me bragging!

It was 30 degrees C at times this afternoon. Muggy with rain storms moving through. And lightning and thunder.

I really like Saskatchewan. I love the fields. The straight roads. The little oil rigs pumping in the fields. The little duck ponds here and there. It’s all lovely.

Well maybe not the floor of the Busy Bee but the rest is wonderful.

Now we are resting our heads in our almost dry tent at the Moose Mountain provincial park. The weather seems really unsettled. Muggy and windy so it’ll probably rain on us again.

The sky has a weird stripe. but the thunderstorm watch was just lifted so maybe it’ll be a calm night after all!

There are lots of families here and people have music playing. And it gets dark here! Not sure if I like that or not. It has perks for sleeping, no doubt.

Good night!
