I’m in Ontario!!!
This morning we woke up with the sun in Yorkton, Saskatchewan and had the hotel’s continental breakfast. When plotting today’s route, we decided to skip a big chunk of the Trans Canada Highway and take an alternative route through the Interlakes region of Manitoba. It said it was 15 minutes longer and 50 km further, but we like exploration and we’ve both done the main highway before. It’s nicer to see things and not just race with the traffic.
First picture of the day…
Gilbert the Golf Ball!

I was expecting more lake views in the Interlake region, but we didn’t have that many views of water. Most of this route was scrubby slightly wetland looking areas.
Here’s one spot where so many people were fishing – out in boats or from the shore.

In the Interlakes area there aren’t many crops, but lots of cattle grazing. We were driving along it seemed like a tractor must have been on the road and left mud smushes here and there.
Then I saw a snake. It’s head was up off the road, and its next several inches too, followed but the characteristic wavy rest of the snake, in the middle of the road. Then another on the right!!! SNAKES! THERE ARE SNAKES ON THE ROAD!
WAIT….
All those smushes ARE DEAD SMUSHED SNAKES. THERE ARE SNAKES ALL OVER THE ROAD!
AHHHHHHHHHHH
The most overwhelming urge to tuck my pants into my socks struck me.
Cecilia wanted to take a photo.
I would not stop.
Nope.
No.
Let’s hope I forget all about this really soon.

There weren’t that many picnic areas areas.. maybe none… until we found one! Just an old stop with a campground and we still didn’t have lunch at a picnic table, but it worked!

Most of the rest of the day was driving and more driving. A few birds were spotted.
By the end of the afternoon we found ONTARIO!

Here’s also a taste of…. what have I done!?

We found a nice little motel for the night and then went further into Kenora to grab a burger.
Then the sun set over Lake of the Woods, with a red rainbow in the opposite sky!

There were the oddest geese here, with antlers.

Also some without antlers. And some with feathers.

Here is Husky the Muskie!

Tomorrow we are heading to Thunder Bay!!
