Kenora to Thunder Bay

We took the alternative route to Thunder Bay today – down through Nestor Falls and through Fort Frances and Atikokan to Thunder Bay. So much less traffic and it was another beautiful day!

We got up at 6:30am, 30 minutes earlier than usual, so we had more time to enjoy the day and not rush the drive. We saw this fellow at the gas station in Kenora:

He had an injured back leg – poor dude.

We saw more deer, or the same ones as last night?

The sun was so bright as we headed out of Kenora. We passed the provincial park I lived in one summer for work (Rushing River), and headed south.

People are quick to tell us we’re a long way from home when they see my license plate!

We didn’t see as many birds along the way, but saw a few. More deer too!

Wow, today may be more picture heavy than I thought.

Northern Ontario trees and rocks and lakes are just SO BEAUTIFUL. Maybe we should move here?

This route has so many picnic areas and outhouses! ❤️

Another windy one though!

Finally a picnic table! But it was too cold and windy we didn’t sit and dine! Like not cold cold (it has snowed the last couple of days back in Dawson City!) but cool enough to put my jacket on!

We stopped in Kashabowie, where I lived to do treeplanting for a summer (with my first dog Winger!). I couldn’t believe that little old strip motel was still there!

We stopped at Kakabeka Falls too! of course!

Tonight we dined in Thunder Bay with Brian (Jeff’s brother) and Jenn (my favourite bestie from University). I got to ask a bunch of questions about where we should live when we move here next year.

Once we got back to our room, Cecilia was determined to use my free $11 food voucher in the hotel restaurant. She did it! She headed off in her pyjamas, disguised under some over clothes, and came back with a box of cake!

Tomorrow we are off to the Sault! Only two more days of driving, maybe?
