New Canadian reality series shooting in Sault Ste. Marie
Bonterra Productions Inc. is gearing up to film three episodes of their exciting new series in the Sault area.
Mantracker will be broadcast nationally on the Outdoor Life Network’s new primetime slate in 2006.
Produced by an award-winning team; this series pushes outdoor adventure television to a new level.
Mantracker features an expert mantracker chasing down two people over wild terrain.
The hunted will take off into the bush with a head start, and have two days to survive and outrun Mantracker.
When he catches them, it’s over.
If they manage to escape his clutches and reach the end of the chase, then victory is theirs.
Mantracker is a veteran cowboy who the RCMP calls in when they need to retrieve someone who can’t – or won’t – be found.
He’s cool, confident and unflappable and this is no game to him.
His reputation is on the line and he will stop at nothing to hunt down his prey.
Riding on horseback with a local cowboy as his sidekick, Mantracker has to rely on his tracking instincts and his partner’s knowledge of the region.

I agree…I too enjoyed the shows. I’m not crazy about the Mantracker himself, and find the fact that he has the advantage of the horse AND a local sidekick a tad bit unfair…..but nevertheless, the premise behind the show is awesome. It’s fast paced and interesting. Liisa and Nicolina’s show was definitely better than the first one….

Wow! Great show last night. Not only was the location scenery spectacular, the show is incredible. Great tension not knowing what was wrong with Jim, and then seeing the two of them fight at the end. What a complete fool she is. Jim rocks in my books! Great attitude, and great eye candy.

I thought they deserved to get caught staying on the trail like that on the second day. I also don’t understand why they stopped to sleep at a cushy cabin when it was still light out and they could have kept moving. I guess they were tired.

Yeah…the poking of the bear poop was entertaining…definitely done for the cameraman! But I think they should have shown more of the bear situation. That would have been interesting. They show the bear standing up, which only means it’s inquisitive. Not aggressive. But I’d still wet my pants! I wonder what the bear hunter from the previous show would have done.

Are you crazy Hicksy?!! The show could only get better without the current Mantracker. He lacks in original character. He is boring to watch. His tone of voice never changes. It’s all I can do to actually sit through an episode. The prey save the show for sure! To the production company of Mantracker….if there is going to be another season…you have got to do something about getting another Mantracker, or at the very least, give him a sidekick that will liven things up. Maybe a past contestant (whoops I mean prey).

After double checking on the mantracker website who exactly Jim McKelvey is, I see you’re the one who had the big knife, and unfortunately had to put up with that whiney cry baby partner. So, you’ll back Terry anyday? Okay. My money is on you actually backing him next season. Too bad the people at Mantracker weren’t actually watching these websites to see their viewers comments.

Hey fellow ‘Trackees’. Who watched the show last night. I did of course. And it was really good. They were captured, but put up a good chase it appeared. They did a lot of ‘bush-whacking’, probably the most that I’ve seen so far.

I think you’ve done a fantastic job Terry. Filming the show was such a great experience, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat if I could!
Met great people, confronted a few fears along the way….I couldn’t have asked for a better outcome.
The show truly wouldn’t be the same without you (and, for the record, I know quite a few ladies who are very content to watch you every week!) 🙂

What would I like to have changed about Mantracker for next year?
For starters…..I really think the Mantracker has too much of an advantage on the prey. You have a horse and the local terrain expert. I really don’t know anyone who can outrun a horse. And I’m really sorry to offend you, but I find you too boring to watch. The tone of your voice never changes, you say the same things over and over each episode. Maybe that part isn’t necessarily your fault, but maybe it’s the production companies fault for not scripting it better. But that’s what I mean about getting someone who is more their own individual person with tons of character.
Mulligan (Bill) says he’ll give you that. But he says you need to get out more to make more friends then your horse.
Mike LeBlanc is on vacation this week, so he isn’t in to comment. I’m sure he would if he was!

We would have another show called…..get this.. The Amazing Race.
I enjoy the fact that you are honest. I know i can’t please everyone, the best we can hope for is 70%.
One little note about the scripting,there is none!!
When i am tracking the prey, i watch the ground and not too much else.
After an hour or two i will take a short break to rest my eyes.
At this point i am pretty much lost…because all i’ve been looking at is the ground.
My guide then tells me roughly where i am. My guide does not volunteer any info. i have to ask him what is over there.
I am not trying to change your mind on the guide, just give you a little insite into what his real job is.

I basically know nothing about horses. I’ve never been around them. But can’t they jump fences? What’s with sometimes they can go in the water, sometimes they can’t. To me that’s a bit fishy.
As for the Amazing Race….completely different concept so you can’t compare the two. The Amazing Race has teams racing around the world, completing certain tasks as they travel. The last team into the check in gets eliminated. They aren’t being chased by anyone. I understand what you are saying about the tracking, and watching the ground etc., but fair is fair and the prey also as lost as you are. They have to figure out on a map where they may or may not be, where you have someone who can pretty much tell you exactly where you are, then you just have to get the horses running and you’re way ahead of them again.
Don’t misunderstand me. The show completely rocks. I love it. Just certain things (and people…sorry) bother me. But I know that is to be expected. You can’t please everyone as you’ve pointed out.

The ranch horses we ride do not jump fences. As far as my guide telling me where i am, and then running to get in front of the prey… I suggest you try this….
the next time you follow a car through the streets of your town,
try to figure out where they are going, and then try to get ahead of them…

Anyway, thanks for the information on the horses…I didn’t know that. I just would have thought they would all jump a fence if asked/coaxed.
No fear, I will always continue to watch the show because it’s great. If you aren’t too ticked off at me, maybe you could let me know your honest opinion of last week’s competitor (the ‘star’ football player). Perhaps, in the spirit of being politically correct, you can’t be as honest as some of us on this site (which I DO understand), but I have to say that guy was a complete ass!

Mantracker, last night’s episode was very entertaining!
I enjoyed following the prey’s adventures for an hour instead of just 30 minutes. The grizzly, the mooning, the booby-trapping attempts, losing the map – all good stuff.
Those two guys sure were characters. I enjoyed listening to them tease each other back and forth. And you always toss out a few good one-liners.

I just caught Mantracker for the first time. I found it to be riveting. As I read the blogs I think some people don’t understand the Mantracker, He seems to be an individual who has spent alot of time alone or many long still nights. He may come accross dry but again that suggest solitude to me.
As far as an advantage with the horse, that may be. But you must aprreciate the spirit of the show. A posse on horseback tracking outlaws through the woods. Thats right out of good old western. I love the show and think it is among the only original shows to come along in years.
You purely survive on your instincts and cunning, unlike the other reality shows that rely on deception lies and cheating.
One thing I don’t understand is why the prey don’t move at night? Is it against the rules? One thing we learned from escape and evasion tactics was to keep moving. Anyway great show The Mantracker is great and a great character. I look forward to seeing the remaining episodes.

We absolutely love this show! Just started watching a couple of weeks ago. Hope it keeps going season after season! We hunt, fish, hike, ride horses, etc., but some of the prey come up with some good ideas- anyways fun show to watch! We would love it if the show was ever in our area!

Hey Mantracker just wondering why neither the prey or yourself move at night? It just seems like you both stop at the same time like you are told to stop for the night or something. Is it a rule to stop at night, if so its seems it would make it more realistic if you could? Thanks for your reply ahead of time.

I too wonder about the lack of night activity. I also wonder why the deck is so dramatically stacked against the prey. The tracker’s skill is beyond question. However,….
The time limit forces to the prey to use trails/roads a significant amount of time. The local guide knows all the trails. Horses on trails have a definite advantage. Seems like the trails/roads are usually wet and soft or even covered with snow.
The routes are generally repleat with bottlnecks/funnels (usually across open areas) so that, when the tracker loses the track, he just moves to the next bottleneck and looks for sign.
Still, I’ll probably watch on occasion, but certainly not a fan as currently configured. The outdoor views are the attraction and the tracker is quite likeable.
