I gave my dear old car a zippy, good drive for our last drive together, rocking out to Flo Rida, Adele, and Carly Simon.

At just 134,000 km, she’s retiring back to the car dealership where they will try to sell her wholesale, or will just buy her from me by the end of the week. I’m not expecting much.

It was never a good car, barely reliable, and sucked away so much money for constant repairs. But it was my first car that I bought brand new, and seeing her off feels like a loss of freedom in a way, leaving me depending on Jeff’s truck for transportation.

But it also means I don’t have to drive it across the country, and no longer have to pay for its repairs, insurance, or fuel. We’ll be living in town so I can walk anywhere I’ll need to walk.

Ta ta for now, little blue car.
