Dad warned us that we would really not enjoy the road from Whistler, through Pemberton, to Lillooet, British Columbia. And it was gnarly! But the views!! That was worth it!
We started out the day in our little site at the Whistler RV campground. It was a bit noisy, but I’m able to sleep through noise more than Jeff I think. I suspect some of the residents spend the summer there while they are working, so Jeff heard some loud departures in the 4am hour, and because they (like every other park and parking lot) has so many stupid speed bumps, every vehicle slowed down and squeaked and creaked out of the park behind us.
We were 15km south of the Whistler Village, and guess who was spending some vacation time there? Our friends Linda and Geoff who hosted us a couple weeks back!

Linda invited us to meet them for breakfast! We paid for parking in a big lot, but the parking enforcement caught up with us and was grumpy with our size, saying RVs weren’t allowed to park there. (Well no kidding. Why is every parking lot in BC equipped to have smart car sized cars only?) Anyway, he let us go, since we had paid. We did note 2 other similar rigs in the parking lot too so maybe he went to get them instead.

Look at our breakfast options at Purebread! How do you decide!?
I went for a lemon blueberry scone. Delicious! It was nice to catch up with Linda and Geoff and share BC adventures.

Afterwards we headed north from Whistler. Neither of us have explored this part of British Columbia!
After Pemberton, the road turns off into the mountains and it was quickly steeps and curvy! Like even more so than the Sea to Sky in the Whistler stretch!

Even Hank wanted to watch!

It’s helpful that Jeff’s truck has an engine break button to help us down the long mountain declines! As a diesel, it has no trouble getting up the mountains either. Whew!

We came across a little construction team working on a bridge on a curve somewhere in that mountain pass. We were behind a few cars and were held back by the guy holding the ‘stop’ sign. Jeff said, those guys are jumping up and down on the bridge. Like testing if it is safe!?!?! Oh my!! We are the heaviest thing in the line up, do we have to test it out!?
And sure enough, they waved the cars over the bridge, which was a wooden bridge, and they told us to pull over towards them.
Wanna know why?
Do you think they wanted us to test the weight capacity of the bridge?
No! They were replacing a big thick and wide wooden plank and they couldn’t get it to fit into the bridge decking. They asked Jeff to drive the length of the board to see if our truck’s weight could help squeeze it in! They celebrated when “it went down a little!!”. Glad we could help boys!

We stopped along side a lake for lunch. I’m not kidding, this truck camper is so convenient. We just hop in the back and have lunch. Today was part of the whole cooked bbq chicken we bought yesterday.

We were looking for a campsite for a long time this afternoon. There weren’t any great options. Until I saw a decent review for one up ahead, north of 100 Mile House. Fortunately the owner had plenty of spaces available, and he liked to chat! Jeff probably wondered what on earth I was doing in the office so long but we chatted everything from the story of the guy who had the leach removed from his noise, to falling asleep while driving, to the price of used trucks!
Anyway, that’s where we are tonight, at the Big Country Campground and RV Park. The owners have been operating this park for over 40 years. It has a pool even! Although I was more eager for the free shower, since he said it didn’t need coins, and that he drilled out the low flow nonsense. YES!

It was a hot afternoon, peaking at 35C in Lillooet. But it’s cooling down nicely now as the sun is setting.

I splurged the $50 for full hook ups, but the owner said I could get a refund if we didn’t use them. But we are! Why not. Maybe we’ll even wash some dishes. Although paper plates are just a million more times convenient. Sorry environment. We’d burn them, but there is still a fire ban everywhere.
We still have a few things to figure out in this Northern Lite camper. Like when we are connected to water hookups, the force of the water to flush the toilet is so strong, it sprays out between the seat and the lid. That’s even with the water regulator in place.
Also, the bathroom mirror is a medicine cabinet. Often when you open it though, everything flies out at you. Like not just the things fly off the shelves, the shelves come leaping out at you too! I think we’re going to need some accessories to hold things in place.
Overall though, it’s super comfortable and we’re loving it, and are planning future trips!
Good night!
