Happy Thanksgiving!

It’s a lovely Thanksgiving Monday in Dawson City. Which means….. yep, the snow arrived this morning!

It isn’t expected to stay, but there is a lot out there now!

As sweet as procrastination is, it’s about time we finish our fall clean-up around here. Jeff was busy getting the boat off the boat trailer this morning so he can deflate it and fold it up for the winter.

Soon he’ll get the ATV’s winterized and parked outside too. I guess it is also about time for snow tires!

We put the 4 planters on the deck away, and I had to shovel the snow to do it! And there are already several more inches out there so I can shovel again!

We hosted Thanksgiving yesterday. I tried to make maple butter tarts from scratch, but I’m SO BAD at pastry, they did not work. Well, they taste fabulous, but the crust crumbles so bad you can’t get them out of the tray! They also look ridiculous. What is even more ridiculous, is that I have store-bought frozen tart shells in the freezer, but I thought I would be able to make my own.

You can’t tell at all, but the inside was perfectly thick, and also runny at the same time, and half had raisins. Sweet, mapley, and delicious! Oh well.

But my buns worked out! With inspiration from the cloverleaf buns that Grandma Stock always made, I gave them a try and they are my new favourite bun to make! I baked them right before dinner so they were hot and delicious! Here they are before their final rise:

I couldn’t decide if I should have apple pie or pumpkin cheesecake for dessert, so I had both!

It was a fun-filled weekend, really. I had a lovely afternoon out with the girls this weekend too. We had falafel bowls at the spa!

We also attended a little housewarming party at our friend Alex’s new house! I just love his new place. It’s a two-story, historical old log cabin!

Now all fun aside…. Last week was ROUGH! Returning to work after a 3-month sabbatical is a serious adjustment! Sitting at a desk so long isn’t the same as sitting behind a steering wheel, it just isn’t! I still love my work, but it is a serious mental shift to return to it! Hopefully this week goes better. I think I need to be sure to enforce better breaks during the day where I step away and do something, move, walk, clean, anything.

I hope you’re all having a great Thanksgiving weekend! Even if you aren’t Canadian or celebrating this weekend!
