We had great road trip weather again today!

We woke up as the sun was rising and had a delicious breakfast buffet at the hotel.

It was WINDY this morning. Gusts to 60km/hr pushed us around the highways for a bit.

Our first stop was at the Milepost 0 marker of the Alaska Highway in Dawson Creek.

Then we opted to take another route to Edmonton so we could get off the main drag. That meant missing the gigantic beaver though in Beaverlodge or whatever that town is called. Oh well.

The countryside was gorgeous. We saw a bazillion snow geese and Canada geese in the most enormous flock that got spooked up from a field.

And then we were in Alberta! Almost every field has been harvested already.

I was longing for some spontaneous adventure so I turned off for a bird lake sign. It worked out!

There was a beautiful little lake or pond with some picnic tables and a new outhouse.

We saw two trumpeter swans here with 4 babies! And a couple bufflehead ducks and two wigeons. Here’s the sign where we stopped.

We checked out some oil pump jacks too.

Unfortunately “Bert”, our GPS navigator, turned us back to the trans Canada highway before we got to Slave Lake. Bummer. That wasn’t intentional. So we took the split lane highway for the last 400 or so kms into Edmonton. Great road condition and fast speed but we hope to get back on some smaller roads. It’s nice to quickly pull over to take a picture or check something out.

Tonight we stopped at Cecilia’s cousin Mary’s house in Edmonton. I haven’t seen Mary and Bob in years. We spent the evening catching up and now we are bunking for the night across the road at Mary’s sister Nellie’s house who is away tonight.

Tomorrow we hope to get an oil change and maybe visit the West Edmonton Mall before we head east!
